About
Biography, practice, and selected exhibitions of Agata Serafin.
Practice
I’m not a chef. I’m a Polish artist and diver living between a few European countries. A lot of time I spent in France, 6 kilometres from Château du Bosc, where Henri Toulouse-Lautrec used to live. When I discovered Henri’s and his friend Momo’s cookbook The Art of Cuisine I decided to cook dishes based on their recipes and in 2014 (the 150th anniversary of Henri’s birthday) I created Cuisine And Art — a zero-waste culinary art project. Soon after I began to find inspiration in other artists’ work.
I love to eat, I love to cook, and I’m addicted to buying cookbooks. But as a typical artist — I read them, I look at them, I admire (or not) the photos, design, typography. And after I do NOT follow the recipes! Never! (OK, almost never.) I use all great recipes only as inspiration. I create my meals using what I find around myself — in my kitchen or pantry, in my small veg garden, or during walks.
English is not my first language, so please forgive me the millions of mistakes that I make. If you want to write to me you can write in Polish, English, Spanish or French. I’ll be happy to reply.
Cuisine And Art
Cuisine And Art is a bilingual (English and Polish) culinary art project. On the blog you will find short stories with recipes inspired by Damien Hirst, Richard Avedon, Maurizio Cattelan, Paul Gauguin, Juan Gris, Joseph Beuys and many others. If you want to cook banana-skin chutney, yellow gazpacho inspired by Anish Kapoor, or just know what chocolate mayonnaise is — this is the right place.
The aims are zero waste, local and seasonal as much as possible when living in a few places, organic and sustainable, and plastic-free. Foraging is in my blood. I’m the most creative when the fridge is almost empty.
